Airsoft buying guide for beginners and experienced players
Everything you need to know before buying your first airsoft gun — weapon types, BB pellets, gear, and Estonian regulations.
What is airsoft?
Airsoft is a tactical team sport where players use realistic replica firearms that shoot plastic BB pellets. Estonia is one of the few European countries where minors can legally participate in organized airsoft games.
Types of airsoft guns
BB pellets
- 0.20 g — standard weight, suitable for most AEG rifles
- 0.25 g — better accuracy, slightly reduced velocity
- 0.28–0.32 g — long-range shooting and upgraded guns
- Tracer / biodegradable — for night games or eco-friendly play
Always use high-quality, seamless BBs. Cheap or deformed pellets can jam and damage your gun.
Essential gear
- Eye protection (ANSI Z87.1 or EN166 rated) — absolutely mandatory
- Full face mask (mesh) — strongly recommended for beginners
- Appropriate clothing and footwear (camo, tactical trousers)
- Load-bearing vest or rig (MOLLE vest, plate carrier)
Estonian regulations
- Airsoft guns are legal in Estonia but must not be carried visibly in public
- Transport your gun in a closed bag or hard case
- Players under 18 require parental consent for organized events
- Energy limits at fields are typically 1–2 J (check with your specific field)
Budget planning
- Beginner kit (€150–250) — AEG starter gun + eye protection + BBs + battery charger
- Intermediate (€250–500) — upgradeable gun + tactical vest + additional magazines
- Pro level (€500+) — HPA system, full tactical loadout
