Vintage Soviet GP-5 / GP-7 Gas Mask Anti-Fog Lenses (НП) – Historical Collectible
Complete your vintage Cold War gear setup with these original Soviet Gas Mask Anti-Fog Films (known in Russian as НП - Незапотевающие плёнки). Standard issue for classic Soviet civilian and military gas masks—including the iconic GP-5, GP-7, and PMG—these anti-fog inserts were designed to maintain clear vision by preventing breath condensation on the glass eyepieces.
Historical Packaging & Design
Each set comes packed in a characteristic round metal tin container, typical of Cold War era Soviet quartermaster issue. Inside the tin are clear, flexible plastic film discs (approximately 6 cm / 2.36 inches in diameter) that were originally manufactured with a surfactant/gelatin coating on one side to dissipate moisture droplets across the lens surface.
Historical Installation Manual / How to Apply
- Preparation: Wipe the inside glass eyepieces of the gas mask completely clean and dry.
- Remove the Ring: Carefully pop out the internal metal pressure/clamping ring from inside the eyepiece frame.
- Insert the Film: Slightly bend the plastic disc and place it flat against the glass lens. Ensure the coated side faces inward toward your eyes (away from the glass).
- Lock It In: Push the internal metal clamping ring back into place to clamp the film tightly against the glass.
Due to their age (decades in military storage), the organic chemical/gelatin coating on these plastic films has naturally dried out and degraded over time. These anti-fog films are EXPIRED and NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL for active fog protection. They are sold strictly as historical surplus collectibles, museum props, film/theater set decorations, and reenactment display accessories.
